Featured Project In 2019 artist Alex Dodge collaborated with the Powerhouse Arts Printshop on his print edition The Only Stars Are In Your Eyes. The print is a seven-color screenprint on Bristol that utilizes an ultraviolet light-cured ink. The UV-cured ink is printed in such a way that it creates a raised surface, such as you might encounter with braille.

The raised areas are of a very high gloss and flow around the contours of the image to create a seemingly three-dimensional image of a jacket hanging on a wall. The braille-like quality also gives the appearance of snakeskin and invites the viewer to touch the print. Alex’s expert use of color and shading renders the folds and weight of the fabric, heightening the image’s trompe l'oeil technique.

Alex Dodge lives and works in Brooklyn, NY and Tokyo, Japan. His works are included in a number of public collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and The New York Public Library.
